10 Finger Licking Linux Desktop Themes
Last time when we published such a list on Linux Desktop; we received a lot of flak for showing mockups and not actually showing how the themes can be replicated by users. Anyone can go to gnome-look and go through thousands of available theme, but we have decided to make a list of ten themes that we thought are a cut above the others, with a link to download and you can try them yourself. Feel free to share your favorite Linux Desktop theme on the comment.

Hot. I’m using Dust on Hardy right now, and loving it.
There’s the spirit ;)
Wow great stuff pavs! I ended up with first one :)
I did something similar sometime ago, though yours are much better!

The default for ubuntustudio 8.04, with the mixing desk wallpaper and really really cool splash screen… Yeah, it’s pretty awesome.
i dont like any of those themes.
good post i think.. for people who are interested in having their system look like someone elses system.
honestly seems like a lot of them are the same with different wallpapers.. not much special here for a linux power user looking to tweak for visual appeal
Very, very nice collection. I love the BlackWhite GTK theme. When I get to work on Monday I’ll see if I can find it and install it. Thanks. A Stumble for your efforts.
wow 10 awesome themes and they are all WAY better than the default Ubuntu theme.
None of these themes actually differs from eachother in any particular way except for the colours. I recommend you the awesome Angelina Murrina GTK, with extra small buttons, sliders, scrollbars etc. I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now and I don’t really see any point in changing again, I simply love it. The theme can be found here: http://trapd00r.deviantart.com/art/Angelina-Murrina-GTK-99438627
Awesome list I like them all.
Okay,
I don’t mean this as an offense to this particular posting, but what is it with all the attention to backgrounds (in all posts about cool “themes”)
I want to see some frickin themes that are functional, attractive, regardless of whatever modern art image happens to be set as the background. Okay, studio apartments and japanese geishas have all sorts of je ne se qua, but how does that address core functionality. Anyone can right click and select a background image, lets see some innovative windowing themes. I appolgize, my subtle distraction has become a rant.
Urm, where is Shiki Colors? Currently the highest rated theme on Gnome look, the theme which is just as cool as any of these but is actually practical and productive to use, a theme which made me switch to gnome just so I could use its that pretty.
This would be great, if only my $4 video card could handle them! ;-)
These themes look really good but themes like BlackWhite, Wreathing Grey, and Mire aren’t that great to use. Mire looks awful when you’re browsing the web because most pages are light and the scrollbar in BlackWhite and Wreathing Grey is too small, along with som eother annoyances.
These are pretty awesome, now I have to figure out which one to put on my desktop.
Maybe I should collect a similar list for some lightweight window manager :-)
Some great designs here, I really should start using Linux more, I guess I’m just stuck in my ways!
Gnome…Gnome…Gnome… *sigh*
Like Linus himself, I use KDE. It sure would be nice to see something geared toward KDE occasionally.
Refreshing to see KDE4 breaking the tradition of Linux desktop copying Windows or Mac!
All the other screenshots remind me of Mac OS X … maybe its because they are all GNOME/GTK themes!
Anyway, KDE4 theme/layout/look-and-feel is definitely original!
Sweet….
Good post. But why are font sizes so small these days?
Most of them are way too small. Like #1 for example..
And what is so interesting about the font in #3? I think its
getting really really annoying
nice themes, but check this out:

Grammatical Error:
go through thousands of available theme, (Should be “themes”.)
Try this ;)

A very nice collection. Thanks for sharing. It will be interesting to see if Microsoft can get the next version of Windows out in time to stop the migration to Linux and Mac/OS
I love the grey themes. they are so not Microsoft-looking which I guess is the point :)
Windows is looking more like Mac every day. Pity the O/S wasn’t as stable. Vista was a disaster. It’s Ubuntu for me. Go the penguin.
If Linux could get a few good games for it like Call of Duty or Team Fortress a lot more young people would use it. I’m sick of all the security I have to set up for Windows XP. I’m sure Linux is far less prone to viruses.
id rather stick to good old cli
Has anyone got a Linux desktop to run on a 3G iPhone yet?
