Ultimate Linux Sacrifice for Blog Action Day
Total views: 1002 | Today, 7
Blog Action Day is a movement organized and participated by bloggers all around the world. One issue at a time. In it’s first year, the issue of environment is the subject of choice. And with that in mind some 15 thousand Blogs with some 12 million readers has signed up to write something about it on Oct 15.
So what does a blogger who writes about linux ought to do on a day like this?
See I have this problem, and I believe most linux users/computer fanatics do, of keeping my computers on for a long long time without shutting it down. Partly because we don’t really have to and partly because it’s always fun to show off your linux boxes “uptime”. I am sure some of you who are reading this is as guilty as I am. So it happens that on of my Linux box has an “uptime” of 311 days. It’s a preety decent uptime and I am quite pround of it and the fact that it’s laptop perhaps makes it even more significant.
Sooooo I decided to turn off my laptop which has been up for 311 days for 15 minutes (like that’s going to save the world). It was done to show my support to the cause than anything else, and donate whatever few dollars I generate because of this.
To Top it off I rebooted all my computers (including one windows box which I do own), all 7 of them and permanently shutoff 3 of them which I rarely use but has been up for quite sometime.
To capture this very emotional moment for me I have taken few screenshots.
Please visit Blog Action Day website and try to support the cause of environment in whatever ways you can; donating, writing about it or just throwing that mountain dew empty can on the recycle basket (ah! that’s one more thing I should do ;)
