How Chanology is DDosing Church of Scientology

As most of you probably know by now that a “Hacker” group called “Anonymous” has setup a project called “Chanology” to take down Church of Scientology. You can listen to their gripe about COS (Church of Scientology) and why they are doing what they are doing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCbKv9yiLiQ

They have also setup up a project page which updates and show people how to help them with the DDOS:

From the page: http://partyvan.info/index.php/JMeter

Step By Step Guide:

[ This guide is for information purpose only, I, the site owner, do not encourage people to go about and follow these steps or Chanology in anyway to carry this attack, or any attack to any organization or any person. If you agree to follow these steps and help them carry this attack you are fully responsible for any consequences whatsoever. This act is illegal in many states and countries. ]

Using Jmeter itself is not illegal but using scientology.JMX definition file and carrying out the stress process can be illegal!!

    I own a Mac too.
Say what you want. Your failure to actually visit links posted is not my fault. Like it says onthe post it was taken from chanology page.

This has absolutely nothing to do with hacking and I don’t understand why this is on this website. This kind of childish “hacks” should not be on any site which take themselves seriously. I am not a great fan of Scientology either, ddossing them is simply wrong (and it’s not even a real hack, it’s a lame piece of software generating a lot of http requests). You should be ashamed putting this on a site like this!

This was put up for information purpose.
This is as much of a news as release of KDE4 is.
You can disagree with me, but this is my position.

This is outrageous. You are losing another fellow reader.

I understand that it’s put there for information purposes, but it feels to me the same as when Slashdot would copy/paste a Windows press release on how nice this new Vista is on their frontpage. By publishing this you implicitly give your approval, despite your disclaimer. I am very sorry, but that’s the impression it gives. You give these scriptkiddies exposure and they will be proud even that they are mentioned on linuxhaxor.net . Please don’t give these pathetic kids a forum for their disruptive and annoying practices. It hurts the net, it hurts Linux by putting it on this website, and it hurts your site as well (look at the commenters who are unsubscribing). This site is great, and it really fills a niche, it would be a shame to let it go to waste by things like this!

when did nerds become such uptight panzies?

I will assume everyone knows the evilz of Scientology.

In the world we live in today, we are stripped of our voices. We all know DDOS is simple to do. So what? What does that have to do with a few kids trying to fight the system, and getting their voice heard.

I’m not making these people out to be martyrs, or even saying I agree with their methods; what I am saying is that they disdain Scientology, and unlike most things people hate, i.e. the Iraq war, they can do _something_ about it. What would you guys suggest as an alternative, captain leetzorz?

i am writing this from my cell. i am sorry if this made some people upset, and we can go on forever arguing about who is right and who is wrong. i still stand by my position. and in the future i will try to avoid such news.

The linked info site is down due to too much bandwith usage. Mirror is here: http://partyvan.info.nyud.net/index.php/Project_Chanology

Please note that if you are new (or a newfag as the jargon goes) expect to be confused by various wordings. These are most likely injokes you will not get. Macfags, PCfags, oldfags, and newfags are just one example of such an injoke.

    This gave me great lulz.

“macfags” is not a derogatory name.

You just aren’t familiar with our culture.
Appending our “-fag” suffix to a descriptor prefix is common practice on Anonymous’s boards. In example, if someone is requesting anon members from Ohio to report in, the thread would be called “ohiofags report in”. If one of us needs the help of an anon in a medical field the call would go “doctorfags report in”.

Like these posts above mine apologizing? They were typed by apologyfags, those who frequent this forum? They’re linuxfags.

i’d love to know why you are running a ddos tool as root.

The screenshots you see here and almost everyother screenshots in this site are from a test machine that I solely use for the purpose of this blog. Testing/reviewing/trying out new programs. And in almost every single screenshots you will see me logged in as root. I wasnt actually running Jmeter in the above screenshots, Jmeter is only seen as loaded with scientology.JMX file, it’s not actually running the stress test, you would know if it did. (ie, top right-hand it says 0/0).

you’re part right. they were also using gigaloader.com’s stress test.

and personally? anyone that’d get that offended by an honestly interesting piece on how anon’s going about some of the ddos attacks enough to stop reading.

    no, wait.

anyone who’d get offended enough at one random post about a major event happening on the internet giving more detail on what’s happening, I’m assuming, isn’t the type of reader you’d want anyway. Grow up guys, it’s news. all over the internet, in fact. I for one am glad he posted this.

and for the record? anyone that’d take a random script from anon deserves what they gey. you’re a brave man for running that.

Im not 100% against what anonymous is doing, but the way they are trying to achieve there goal, i would say its not in there best interest. They are portrayed as “domestic hacker terrorists.” Look at the way the media is portraying them to every one else. People are starting to empathize with the COS, which is probably what anonymous doesn’t want. If it was me, i would try to find out some of COS secrets, and then systematically post them all at the same time, obviously on different sites and locations. COS would have a hard time trying to remove all of these secrets from sites (trying to contact people, etc…) and also, trying to track down what secrets where posted to what sites. I would say put a majority on underground sites. Anonymous should put more effort in trying convince people that they have been wronged in some type of way, and portray themselves as liberators.

anyway this could go on for forever, im done. If you really want to make a difference you should target creditdiagnosis.com (im personally sick of trying to get a free credit report and then, randomly i get charged. I can’t stand that, ive tried to call and they just treat me and friends like dirt; these are things you should target, they rape people money and do not refund it to them!!)

i would like to get back to the intelligent conversations to
