Firefox Minefield: Faster Than Chrome

Quick tip.
If you are not happy that you can’t get to try a native chrome, arguably the fastest browser out there (chromium is not so stable); give Firefox Minefield a shot. Even though it’s an early Alpha build, under the hood, it has the fastest javascript engine out there. There are faster javascript engines, but none of them are released bundled with any browsers yet. (not that I know of).
- Download and install the latest nightly build.
- Start tracemonkey javascript engine by going to about:config and enabling the option javascript.options.jit.content.
- Browse websites blazingly fast!
According to some tests it is 10% faster than Google Chrome.

I’ve always thought Chrome to be a bit of a non-starter.
Even if Chrome was faster i see no reason to change from Firefox.
A speed boost PLUS more SVG implemented, WOW, i’m really looking forward to yet another way better Firefox version.
If you want speed Opera is the way to go.
the latest Webkit nightly offer squirrelfish extreme.
Yep, you can get WebKit nightly builds straight from webkit.org for Windows, Mac and Linux… These have ‘the fastest javascript engine’, squirelfish…
just tested Webkit nightly against Minefield on sunspider’s javascript benchmark … and Webkit nightly wins …
also ran acid3 and it scored 100
i downloaded the latest minefield but there is not such option in about:config ?
What about memory usage? The last time I did a comparison, Firefox was using about 30% more memory than Google Chrome.
Firefox Minefield is WAY faster than Chrome~I just downloaded it and I’m amazed, a great browser. I won’t use anything else!

this is a benchmark between chrome and firefox
firefox is still not fast enough
Gave this a try. Seems pretty good. I moved the firefox directory to /opt, then symlinked the new firefox binary into /usr/bin so all the old shortcuts etc. all work (made a backup first of course). That way I can keep updating it with new nightlies very easily (just replace the /opt/firefox directory with the new one).
Cheers for this :-)
seems to be loading faster, I Like
Thanks for the article. I have social bookmarked this article at: http://www.tutable.com
Firefox Minefield - not so impressive. Find slight improvement only in terms of speed.
Minefield looks very promising…
Thanks for the info!

I have been using Minefield every day with both jit’s true but it’s not very fast, IMO.
