Twitter Question for Readers.

A short post.

As mentioned few weeks ago, I started using twitter and invited you guys to add me as a friend. All I can say is that I am having a blast, and made some great friends in the process. As a person who lives on up to the minute information and subscribes to 100s of RSS feeds, I find twitter to be a great resource for information. For instance this week alone, I found out about Gimp 2.6 and Ubuntu Beta release (by the way, Ubuntu beta is out just now) even before any of my feed picked it up. So I think twitter can be very helpful in this way; of course there are down sides of people rambling about what coffee they are drinking more often than you would like to know. :)

Anyways, the reason of this post is that I would like to know what linux desktop client you are using for twitter. I am currently very happy with adobe air twitter client, Thwirl. Sometimes I also tweet from the terminal using curl , if you are into crazy stuff like this check out Twidge (thanks to a reader), which lets you use micro-blogging services like twitter from the terminal, among other things.

So, feel free to share your choice on clients or any desktop clients for Linux, I would like to test them out myself and make a list for a future post.

Thanks!

I’m using 64-bit Ubuntu and so far haven’t found an easy way of getting AIR apps to work on it. I don’t use my Linux workstation all the time (mainly use my MacBook), but when I do and I want a Twitter app running, I use Gwibber, because I don’t need loads of features for the few times I tweet from Linux :-)

Jalada: I’m on 64bit Ubuntu, and enjoying AIR! You need to get Flash 10 and Adobe AIR beta, and a lot of apps work great. Some though cannot connect to the internet (while others can…).

Oh, and as for me, I use ping.fm… haha. I started using social networks for keeping people up to date on the development of a new mud client I’m working on (Mudlet, http://mudlet.org)

After trying a few clients, I used Twitux for a while, it was somewhat basic but quite useful. Now I’m using Gwibber 0.7, it’s the best for me so far. Gwibber is also a client for identi.ca, flickr, digg, facebook, jaiku, pownce. Yes, all that! I also like GnomeDo’s twitter plugin, b/c it pops up new tweets from the friends timeline in about half a minute after they tweet.

I use twitux. It fits my needs. It’s a twitter client and nothing more.

I use Twhirl, and Ping.fm if I want to post something across the board.

I have Twitter open in its own tab when I fire up SeaMonkey–which is open all the time, basically–so it’s always there as an option. But my preferred method is Twittering at the command line via shell scripts I’ve written which use curl. I haven’t tried any other methods…yet.

TTYtter + Guake. That’s the best combo around :). I wrote about it a few days ago[1] . It’s in Spanish, but maybe is useful for you.
